BIKAR EXPANSION JOINTS FOR THE BOKPOORT SOLAR THERMAL PLANT (CSP), IN SOUTH AFRICA.
Bikar Juntas y Compensadores signed an agreement with the main engineering companies of the CSP project in order to manufacture and provide Bikar BL-FLEX type expansion joints.
The Bokpoort thermo solar plant (50MW) is located close to Upington city, in South African´s Northern Cape Province.
The thermo solar plant design and construction was carried out by a consortium of EPC contractors consortium, some of them from Spain as SENER, ACCIONA or TSK
The operation and maintenance will be undertaken by a consortium led by NOMAC, ACWA Power and Invest In Africa Energy.
The power plant disposes of a thermal storage. This makes CSP the only renewable technology at
commercial scale to cover the country´s daily peak demand. Thus, it will help to prevent power black outs.
South Africa is a country which relies heavily on coal to meet its energy needs, so, this kind of project is a very interesting and sustainable alternative for their interests.
